Wellness Exams

A wellness exam is the foundation of preventative care: a nose-to-tail check that catches small problems before they become big (and expensive) ones.

What's included

What we actually check

Your veterinarian works head to tail: eyes and ears, teeth and gums, lymph nodes, heart and lung sounds, the abdomen, skin and coat, joints and gait, and a body-condition score, the honest version of "is my pet a healthy weight?" You get plain-language findings as we go, not a form to decode later.

Because we see the same pets year after year, the exam is also a record. Small changes, like a new heart murmur, a lump that wasn't there last spring, or gradual weight gain, are easiest to catch when someone is comparing against last time.

How often your pet needs one

Once a year is the standard for healthy adult dogs and cats. Pets age faster than we do, so an annual visit is roughly the equivalent of a person seeing their doctor every five to seven years.

Seniors (generally dogs over seven and cats over ten) benefit from twice-yearly exams, because age-related conditions like kidney disease, arthritis, and dental disease progress quickly and are far more manageable when caught early. Puppies and kittens are seen several times during their first-year vaccine series.

What to bring, and what we don't do

Bring any prior records you have (a phone photo is fine), a list of current foods and medications, and any questions you've been saving up. Dogs on a leash, cats in a carrier.

Our focus is wellness, and we evaluate minor illness visits case by case. Call first and we'll tell you whether we can see your pet. For anything urgent, an injury, or a pet in distress, we'll help you get to the right place fast through our trusted referral network. Keeping our scope focused is exactly what lets us keep exams at $40.
